Here at The Camera Life, we’re pretty proud of our channel, content, and, more importantly, our community of viewers.

I believe one key to podcast success is staying inquisitive and learning from everyone you meet along the way. While I’m not telling anyone in the podcast game anything new, it’s certainly something that didn’t come to me immediately. However, as our channel has grown, Justin, Jim, and I (Greg) have maintained an inquisitive and organic approach to engaging and learning from guests, guest co-hosts, and viewers. We ask questions not to tick them off a pre-prepared list, but to honestly discuss a topic or point that interests us and those in our community. Asking the right questions and seeking further understanding is also fundamental to building success in your photography or photography business. As it turns out, Andrew built PhotoBizX by being inquisitive and asking his guests questions he believed would help him and his audience grow a successful photography business. The proof is in the pudding!

As is often the case, Andrew worked in several different careers before settling into pro photography. Andrew was even a sparky (Australian slang for an electrician) at one point. However, once Andrew set his course to be a pro-photographer, it was full steam ahead to build a highly successful wedding and portrait photography business. Today, Impact Media boasts a team of five, including Andrew and his wife Linda.

“Andrew is happiest when quietly telling stories through words and images, documenting real moments between couples and families.”

When not recording a podcast or supporting Impact Media, Andrew freely explores his love of travel with Linda and states he always has his next travel destination booked. Andrew is also an avid cyclist (he also races), has a profound love of travel with his partner Linda, and happily shares that he always has his next travel destination booked…Always! And, much like Justin and Jim, he loves to ski - especially in Japan. Andrew’s Instagram account is an eyewatering collage of amazing travel, cycling, and skiing shots. Plus, he loves to document street photography whilst on travels.

Impact Media is a team of five professional photographers, image editors, and customer experience professionals operating from the Central Coast of NSW. In fact, Impact Media is the most awarded photography business on the Central Coast. Fundamental to the brand’s success is the mindset of delivering the best images and experience for each client. The team, with over 30 years of photography experience, are unified in their efforts to create real photos over the static and bland posed images everyone expects. One of the most interesting aspects of our conversation centred on strategies to sell and upsell photo albums to clients. Andrew shared amazing tips (I saw Jim taking notes) on this core revenue stream for any wedding, portrait, or event photographer.

“I believe a wedding day is about family, friends, emotion, moments, and relationships more so than the location, weather, or table runner colours. I’ll give you direction if needed; otherwise, I’ll be documenting what’s happening.”

PhotoBizX is the number one photography business podcast with over 600 unique, insightful, and inspirational audio interviews freely available to explore. Beyond this free-to-access content, Andrew also offers a host of extra content via a Premium Membership subscription. Much like Patreon, the Premium Membership offers those with an inquisitive nature the opportunity to dig deeper into understanding core elements of running a successful business. Andrew’s guests hail from every corner of the globe, with strengths in marketing, advertising, pricing, and the best tips and tricks to elevate your career and brand awareness. During our discussion on The Camera Life podcast, Andrew revealed that he began PhotoBizX to ask the questions he needed answered most to support his business success. From there, the channel became the number one source of insight and inspiration. If you’re just starting in the pro game, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by checking out PhotoBizX.

It was a pleasure and a unique opportunity to chat with a fellow photography podcaster and discover yet another visual creative supporting the community through genuine and down-to-earth discourse over our shared craft. I was especially pleased for Justin (Lucky Straps founder), who credits Andrew and PhotoBizX for guiding him when he started his fledgling photography business over ten years ago. With no formal training, Justin gained insightful and meaningful support to guide his efforts and build Justin and Jim Weddings. He gained advice at such a crucial time for any startup business, regardless of the purpose.
