Greg Carrick - That Aussie Photographer

Greg Carrick is a Melbourne based photographer with an extensive history in photojournalism, film, and gear acquisition. As a fellow Fujifilm photographer, I’ve known Greg for a number of years and have admired his street work, astrophotography, and ability to adapt pretty-much any lens to one of his cameras. Greg’s inventiveness, ingenuity, and creativity allow him to continue his exploration of photography in new and fascinating ways. Greg’s YouTube channel, That Aussie Photographer, features over 240 videos covering everything from gear reviews, to guides on capturing a wide range of genres including street, astro, landscape, and seascape. Greg’s humble and often funny approach to his craft is inspirational and he wholeheartedly encourages viewers to get out with a camera and give it a try. That’s the Australian way.

Dennis Smith - School Of Light

Justin and I first met Dennis Smith at the Bright Festival Of Photography (BFOP) in October 2024. Dennis was a returning presenter to the festival and we were instantly captivated by his use of light painting to tell artistic and creative stories. What’s most impressive about Dennis’ body of work is the creative use of long exposure and light painting to create masterful, mysterious, and often surreal images with otherwordly light ghosts. Furthermore, Dennis is an open book and freely shares his methods and madness in creating images for others to learn and gain inspiration from. Dennis’ YouTube channel, School Of Light, hosts nearly 200 videos including guided workshops, studio hacks, and the application of light in unique ways. Everything he achieves, is there to be learnt from and master.

John Street - Street Life

If you’re looking for an audio only podcast that talks about street photography, look no further than Street Life. Hosted by John Street and Mark Davidson, Street Life takes an upclose and personal look at the world of street photography. John and Mark’s channel is home to over 60 audio podcasts celebrating the past and present of the photojournalistic style of artistically capturing life on the streets. I’ve known John for a number of years and have joined him on a number of street walks documenting life in Melbourne, Victoria. John is a master of his craft with an uncanny eye for how light and shadow dictates composition just as much as the subjects themselves. John appeared on The Camera Life podcast in 2024 to share his love of the craft and approach to street photography. If you’re keen to get into street, this is the best place to start and build an awareness of the genre and it’s creative possibilities.

Cam Blake & Brendan Waites - Down South Photo Show

The Down South Photo Show is one of the most popular Australian photography podcasts channels. Hosted by landscape and wilderness photographers Cam Blake and Brendan Waites, the Down South Photo Show hosts over 150 videos. It doesn’t take long to realise that watching Cam and Brendan is a low stress and often lighthearted way to absorb regular photography content. The Down South Photo Show offers inspiration, guidance, and insight into landscape and wildlife photography while also not taking itself too seriously. We met Cam and Brendan at BFOP 2024 and found ourselves planning a Lucky Straps X The Camera Life X Down South Photo Show collaboration - stay tuned for that! Cam and Brendan’s video and audio podcast entertains and informs with content from workshops at home and abroad, guest interviews, and general creative discussion topics. It’s a little like an “easy listening” station for photographers.

Like many of us, Levin Barrett began his pursuit of photography in a darkroom and explored his creative output with analog film cameras. Skip ahead several decades and Levin is now an experienced wide-body passenger aircraft pilot whose day-to-day takes him worldwide. It was through his countless journeys that Levin’s passion for photography blossomed as he capture amazing landscapes, seascapes, and astro compositions from around the world.
